How do you justify a contingent battle in a necessary war?
The necessary war is the war on terror. The contingent battle is the war in Iraq.
Supposedly, the rational link between the two wars may be: 1/ intimidation of middle-eastern regimes; OR 2/ the establishment of another friendly regime in the middle east--wherefrom neocons and friedmanites alike expect a sort of "trickle down" effect of "democratic" culture in the region.
I couldn't possibly justify a contingent battle in Iraq. It has nothing to do with the necessary war. It is a distraction from the necessary war. Both in terms of lives lost and money.
