Rajput painting, a style of Indian painting, evolved and flourished during the 18th century in the royal courts of Rajputana, India, flowing from the style of Mughal painting, itself derived from the Persian miniature. Each Rajput kingdom evolved a distinct style, but with certain common features. Rajput paintings depict a number of themes, events of epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, Krishna’s life, beautiful landscapes, and humans. Miniatures in manuscripts or single sheets to be kept in albums were the preferred medium of Rajput painting, but many paintings were done on the walls of palaces, inner chambers of the forts, havelis, particularly, the havelis of Shekhawait.
The colours extracted from certain minerals, plant sources, conch shells, and were even derived by processing precious stones, gold and silver were used. The preparation of desired colours was a lengthy process, sometimes taking weeks. Brushes used were very fine.

In the medieval period, painters miniature Indians had tried the female nude.
Miniature painting style had developed in India before the ages. He brought with him the influence of other cultures, too. The artists represented in miniature of his art paper, ivory, furniture wood, and other pieces of leather and marble. It even uses fabrics and walls as his canvas. The miniature paintings of Kangra Pahari School, practiced mainly during the 18th century was influenced by the Mughals. However, it has retained its distinctive character. To naturalistic paintings, the artists used colors extracted of minerals, plants and possession of enamel-like luster. The subjects were taken from the books as, Gita Govinda and Baramasa of Keshavdas. Lord Krishna and Radha, as presented lovers of the moments of joy eternal love. The Kangra style of miniature paintings, is known for portraying feminine charm, with its natural grace.
Artists Indian miniatures that were created using different materials to give their products a unique material appearance.The indigenous artists from medieval times used were produced locally one. Used, minerals, vegetables, precious stones, indigo, shells, gold and silver are used to detail the drawings masterfully executed. The subjects also represents are rich in culture and deep in meaning. Among the popular items were the representation of the impact of the scriptures like the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Purana Bhagvate. Illustrated the scenes of books like Rasikpriya and Rasamanjiri.
There are various schools of paintings in India. It was the medieval period. The painters of the seventeenth and eighteenth century India had wealthy individuals and innovative ideas for painting. These schools are known as Kangde School of Painting, Phad painting style and the style of paintings of Rajasthan.
