Can I use spartan hoplites and such in Rome: Total War (barbarian invasion)?

Hi I just downloaded the barbarian invasion version or Roome :total war and I remember in custom battles I could use the macedonians and spartans and stuff in the first one (i played my friends). How come I can't use them in this game? Do I have to unlock them in campaign mode or do I have to download a patch or what?

This is the EXPANSION shouldn't I be able to use the stuff in the old game too?

BTW I'm talking about using them in the custom battles i don't mind much for the actual campaign.

don't play these kind of games and download prince of persia warrior within or two thrones

The word hoplite (Greek: ??????? hoplite? S, pl. ??????? hoplitai) is derived from plural hoplon ????), the hoplon hopla (?????, round shield was made by Greek soldiers, with what 'hoplite' may approximate the "man armored. Hoplites were citizen-soldiers of the ancient Greek city-states. They were mostly armed with spears, men and fought in a phalanx formation.

The war in ancient Greece seems to have been set piece battles between independent city-states. The hoplite was an effective solution to this situation. A city-state could not afford a professional and / or standing army, so that the battles had to be fought by citizens themselves. The tactics and techniques used in battle therefore had to be simple enough to be quickly mastered. Since the team was provided by the individual hoplite, it had to be affordable for the average citizen. The hoplite probably first appeared in the seventh century BC. In the early classical period most battles seem to have primarily involved clashes of opposing phalanxes; tactics were simple and relatively few casualties. Towards the end of period more classic sophistication seems to have occurred, culminating in the "new model army" of the Kingdom of Ancient Macedonia.

Almost all famous men of ancient Greece, even philosophers and playwrights, fought as hoplites. [1] [2] Most known hoplites were the Spartans and Romans who were trained from childhood in combat and war to become an exceptionally disciplined fighting force and higher.

The Spartans

A notable exception to the general pattern of hoplite warfare was the system used by the Spartans. As a result of a social revolution taking place in on May 8th 7 centuries before Christ, every State Spartans became militarized. This was possible thanks to the conquest of neighboring lands, and the servitude of the population. Known as helots, who cultivated the lands the Spartans, thus removing the burden of supporting Sparta Spartans themselves. This left the Spartans free to pursue the art of war.

From the age of seven years on, the men of Sparta were trained to a life of war. They were taught iron discipline, and almost programmed to forget their individuality for the good of Sparta. [3] The intense training and camaraderie generated among the Spartans made them ideal for hoplite warfare that requires high levels of discipline and selflessness. Spartans do not fear death, only the shame of defeat in battle. In the Spartan army culture, not a soldier pull Aspis was acceptable. He said: "Come home with this shield or upon it".

It is not very accurate to describe Spartans as professional soldiers, as the military was not a profession they chose, but a requirement of birth. Spartans were not used as soldiers, in exchange, they provided support to their servants. This can be compared to feudal Europe, gentlemen soldiers were not professionals, but a militaristic caste, with the support of the local population. However, despite their obvious differences from the Greek city of others states, the Spartans fought in the same way as the Greeks, just maybe more effective. The Spartans no exception, have been standard issue equipment, including a shield called Aspis, by the Greek letter lambda (?), referring to his homeland Lacedaemonia and bronze armor was awarded to all of the Spartans with his helmet. Each Spartan wore a scarlet tunic to represent them as Spartans, but the cape was never worn in battle. The Helots would accompany the Spartans in the support battles and ranged, the Spartans thought of archery as a job not for a true warrior. The Helots also established camps and work Spartans made for time in the campaign.
