Ram Setu or Sethusamudram, this is so hot that it is in the mind of India.
From the day of the inauguration of the Sethusamudram Project, Ram Setu Sethusamudram Controversy or travels the UPA Govt. the affidavit filed recently by the government in the Supreme Court, which says there is no historical proof of Lord Rama and Ram Setu has worked as fuel in the fire for the government of India.
First, before discussing more can give you some writings on Ram Setu and Sethusamudram.
What is Ram Setu or Adam's Bridge --
Adam's Bridge, also called Ram's Bridge a chain of limestone banks, between the islands of Mannar, near northwestern Sri Lanka, and Rameswaram, off the southeast coast of India. The bridge is 30 miles (48 km) long and separates the Gulf of Mannar (southwest) from the Palk Strait (northeast). Some of the sandbanks are dry and the sea in the area is very shallow, being only 3 feet to 30 feet (1 m to 10 m) deep. Reportedly passable on foot up to the 15th century until storms deeper channel: temple records seem to say that the bridge Ram was complete on sea level until it broke in a cyclone in 1480 AD.
What is the Sethusamudram project --
A project called Sethusamudram was launched to create alternative shorter route for ships to cross the Gulf of Mannar. Project originally planned by the Commander AD Taylor of the Indian Navy in 1860, then in 1955 the Government of India set up the Sethusamudram project committee to study the feasibility of the project. In June 2005 the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA president Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the project, which will cost around Rs 24.27 billion.
The project is part of the ship originating from western India for the Chennai, Ennore, Vishakapatnam, Paradeep, Haldia and Kolkata have to travel around the coast of Sri Lanka, which leads to increased travel distance and time. Apart from this ships belonging to Indian Navy and Coast Guard also need to travel around Sri Lanka. In order to reduce the distances through the mists of the east coast and west of India and to improve navigation in territorial waters of India, a navigation channel connecting the Gulf of Mannar through Palk Bay and Adam's Bridge is scheduled for ships moving between east and west of India does not need to go Sri Lanka.
The government UPA and its allies are firm and defend the project as an opportunity for development, attracting cargo ships to East Coast ports.
On the other hand BJP and its allies and the VHP and Dal Banjrang are trying to cash on the sentiments of the Hindu world wide.
Hardcore Hindu organizations are also gaining in recent photograph of Adams bridge launched by NASA. But NASA says it never said that this bridge is man or is Ram Setu. The left parties are quoting the statement 2003, by Professor SM Ramasamy of the Center for Remote Sensing (CRS) of Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi who said the Adam's bridge over Palk Strait is about 3,500 years and not 1.7 million years as claimed by Sangh Parivar.
The third front in this case is that environmentalists also oppose the project, but not for reasons religious but on the environment. According to them, in the Gulf of Mannar is more than sentiment involved. The marine national park has corals, sea cucumbers and more than 400 species of fish. The Sethu project is aimed at extending the bottom of the ocean and the constant agitation of sediments drown these coral reefs. The increase in traffic Shipping will inevitably result in increased oil spills and marine pollution.
It is these coral reefs that act as natural barriers impending disaster like a tsunami and fishermen in the area claim that once the reef is destroyed the natural barrier is broken and the impact of the tsunami be imminent.
Now the questions to be answered are why the government is very interested in this project if religious concerns and the environment relate to it? If the BJP and other Hindu teams are unable to produce evidence for his claim of Ram Setu below are simply charging for religious reasons feelings public because perception surveys are medium term in the country?
But in the current scenario is difficult to find an answer to these questions.
