Guard Praetorian
what year were the praetorian guard founded?

the praetorian guard of ancient rome, i would like to know the year they were founded, its for a classics project, any help is appreciated

It's not know for sure exactly when they came about, but during the republic generals kept a small bodyguard which took their name from his tent where they kept guard (the praetorium).
In 27 BC Augustus established a permanent force of 9 cohorts (1 praetorian cohort = 500 men). They recieved 3 times legionary pay and had to serve only 16 years. An elite troop.

Auctions - How to Succeed 2

History

A bronze sculpture of "Artemis and the Stag," the reputation of date from Roman times, was sold in 2007 at Sotheby's in New York for the U.S. 28.6 million U.S. dollars. That price, which exceeded all previous estimates the auction, was a new record in so representing the most expensive sculpture ever sold at auction.

One of the most popular in most sales are items of porcelain art. Christie's was sold for £ 15.68 million in 2005, a piece of Chinese porcelain dating from the 14th century. Such was the sale that there was a world record for any ceramic work of art sold at auction.

The derivation of the word "auction" is a Latin August? RE, which means "increase" or "increase".

Throughout history, auctions have been the preferred way of trading the sale and purchase of goods and merchandise. Apart from the sale for a predetermined price by far the most popular has been that of the ancient art of bargaining, which refers to the process of negotiating the price of an item to ensure a better deal than the suggested price. In fact, before the seventeenth century, the celebration auction is a rare event.

However, the conclusion of the auctions goes back to prehistory. Records show that the earliest auction known took place around 500 BC In the region of Babylon, an area south of Baghdad, women auctions for the purpose of marriage is celebrated annually. The auctioneer started the procedure with the woman he considered the most beautiful. It ended when only remained the least attractive. In fact, it was considered illegal for a daughter to be sold otherwise than by auction.

After a military victory, was an accepted practice by the Roman soldiers to use their spears, to form an area in which the spoils of war were left to be auctioned at a later date. This includes the captured slaves, who were also regarded as "spoils war "and were auctioned in the forum under the sign of the spear, with the proceeds of the sale are used to offset the costs of war.

In Roman times, was common to use auctions to sell valuable items of debtors whose property had been confiscated. An excellent example is that of Marcus Aurelius, who sold to his furniture from the house to pay debts. It was recorded that sales of these assets went on for months.

In 193 AD, the Roman Empire itself was put to auction by the Praetorian Guard, representing the special force of personal bodyguards used by Roman emperors. This monumental historical event, was launched when the Praetorian Guard first killed Pertinax the emperor, and then offered the empire to the highest bidder. Didius Julianus outbid everyone and became emperor. However, this began a brief civil war that led to his beheading, two months later when Septimus Severus conquered Rome and, in turn, became emperor.

After the fall of the Roman Empire and through the auction of the eighteenth century, left for Europe. Moreover, it has never been widely accepted in Asia.
