where to buy german books in the USA?
I was reading this book called "Neues vom kleinen Nick" in my German class. I asked my teacher where I could get it in the USA and she didn't know because she bought it in Germany. The author of the book is Rene Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempe. The publisher is Diogenes. Does anyone know any websites that sell A LOT of German books. I already tried amazon. Also, if someone could find where I could specifically buy this book it would help me a lot! Danke!
Amazon.de - the German site
Bol.de - another German bookseller with a website.
Barnes and Noble tends to have more German books than Amazon as it is associated with college bookstores.

I'm so tired of people screaming that "the learning of German is so hard and so costly in time" that basically listen to the boys and girls in all parties on the Internet, and you have to wonder: what the hell are they doing wrong? German is one of the easiest languages to learn if you are already familiar with English and if you're reading this, I'm pretty sure there are at least moderately familiar with it, otherwise this is just a random string of characters for you and you do not know what the hell I'm talking about anyway.
German and English languages have much in common because of the fact that they share the very basis of Anglo Saxon language. The grammar rules are almost the same, they have many look-both words and German, although it may seem a little "rough" more attention to the consonants, that barrier can be overcome easily after a few language classes. If English is your native language, ironically, will be a little harder to get a good grip on learning German, since all rules of grammar are natural and have never really been "learned" but acquiring practice. Someone who has learned English as a second language, will find it much easier to learn German after (or vice versa) as these basic rules have been learned the hard way.
The trick to making the process of learning German it easy to keep everything simple and fun. Yes, these two ingredients, simple and fun, making language learning a great soup. Start slowly, even if you are an adult, start with the "children techniques. Learn the basic words, numbers, colors, months, days and so on and familiar with the style of writing, pronunciation and try to find links between these words and their English counterparts (which means "Montag" weekday similar in English? Etc). The natural progression in any language learning process is to gain control over some grammar rules Having accustomed yourself with the language through basic words. As I said, this will be easy for a speaker of English.
The next, work on increasing vocabulary in German. Use language games, cards, mnemonics and all others who can paste a word to an image. The word combination of image is a great way to memorize words, it will be absorbed your brain faster, fun and most importantly, your brain will not forget the image, leaving you with one side of the word in case you forget it.
A final worth noting: This is only general advice that applies to great learning German. Do not forget to check what you have learned, otherwise only will absorb new things and forget much of what you've learned. If possible, try to extend prior learning and not go to a different theme (for example, if you just learned the basic words in the "vegetables" on the ground, Try working your way from there to the "kitchen" or "agriculture" fields so we still use words that are treated before). Be sure not to over-revise either. It will not hurt, but you will lose precious time for nothing and that time is better spent to improve the vocabulary, focus on grammar or work on pronunciation and spelling.
I've seen some disputes about whether or not "natural language learning is beneficial or not. It's about learning a language through direct contact with him, rather than taking it step by step. By example, seeing a German TV, reading a book in German, or just listen to two people speak the language learning is considered natural. The advantage natural learning is that you can easily understand new words out of context. If you understand 70% of what a person is saying, you will be able to decipher the other 30% and what those words mean in particular by natural deduction. This is a great way to add words to their vocabulary and if you can not get a new word out of context, or are unsure of what it means, simply type in the soil and the dictionary to check later.
The disadvantage of this method is mainly related to television programs, audio tapes, etc (less with books and magazines): sometimes speak a German dialect speakers or van to speak with an accent, so it is very hard for you to learn something constructive for them. That's why you should always choose the shows or audio tape someone speaking role "clean" in Germany as much as possible.
