North Pacific Coast - Vision of the Seas Review
So call me Negative Nelly or whatever you call someone who sees the negative in things, but can not ignore the negatives, and to be fair, I shouldn € ™ t. So let me state at the outset that this review will have some negative points in it, but let me also say that we did enjoy our cruise and would do it again.
Our cruise was the first monarch of Royal Caribbean of the Seas and Carnival Paradise. Both of these boats cruise out of Los Angeles (Long Beach) to Catalina and Ensenada. Both are smaller vessels in their respective lines and are the basis of the comparisons when looking at this cruise. Of course it could be like comparing an SUV in a VW Bug, although in the case of the monarch and the Bug class If the Paradise Bug Party!
When booked this cruise our expectations were a bit more then if we book a regular route of a ship, as it was a repositioning cruise. Turns out we should have our expectations had fallen sharply, the cruise was fully manned and entertainment was scheduled for a cruise 7 night while we were on a cruise of 5 nights, it gave us more entertainment options that did not need entertaining and they found ways to entertain us, boy, "Do not Do Not Disturb" came in handy.
We arrived for check-in around noon (I wanted to get to the room early, we had not seen in a week), what seemed like a good time and they were able to walk to the check-in counter and were promptly handled by one officer. A few minutes of verification of documents, display passports, drawing blood (not really) and slide a credit card (They wanted to keep, but I wouldn € ™ t let them) and went on board the ship. We have learned something new on this cruise that we earlier suspected. Arriving early for check-in works for us and takes us quickly on board. Score!
We boarded the boat and headed for the Windjammer restaurant for lunch buffet. This was the first of a few disappointments for the cruise. The food for lunch boarding was dry and soft, something like the food we cook at home when children's your turn to cook, compared to the monarch we are very disappointed and hoped that was not the norm for the Windjammer. Unfortunately, this proved to be the norm for the Windjammer on this cruise, but a glass of lemonade to improve some things and gave him a bitter taste. Each time you ate in the Windjammer find the food to be dry and relatively soft, I looked around the restaurant and went to the kitchen, but didnâ € ™ t see my kids working, there are some dishes that broke the pattern but not many.
When available the cabins they visited our cabin and while there was a booth inside the layout of the room felt larger than our previous visits to the monarch (say that shaving makes things look bigger). Our cabin was created with the beds together in the configuration of the queen, which we liked because it was not necessary request. Besides the crown and anchor our books and robes that were part of our voucher were in the waiting room for us. One disappointment here was that we saw our cabin attendant to day 3 of the voyage could have been by "Do Not Disturb", but we were careful to avoid having to during most of the time they are supposed to go to the rooms. While he was taking care of our cabin that does not really seem interested in addressing personal care that may have had. Fortunately didnâ ™ € t have. The only time we saw our attendant was when we gave the customer satisfaction survey and noted his section. I'll give him credit, he took care of the room, but there was no personal touch and felt that his hand.
We loved the design of the ship and how easy it was to get from one place to another. We were at the Centrum a bit and enjoy the music often play in that area. We also enjoyed playing tag and hide and seek in the ship. The problem was, we hid together and no one came to pick, so we have a bit worried, sometimes. It was on one such trip he met to a lovely young woman named Sandie was enjoying his solo voyage. What girlfriend, she was charming and always had a few wolves following her around. She always had a drink in their hands due to the diligence of the wait staff. The proof that one person can enjoy a cruise without a wingman. Only I like to see the final bill.
The exercise of compulsory concentration was quite fast and our leader had to gather a great attitude and did what he could to do more drilling to collect all nice, then it could have been. It may have been a bit much for him to do the paperwork and turning and diving, but it's interesting to see fun. He also gave a fair imitation of the cruise director and captain. I think I saw him floating near the ship at one point, but that may have been a trick of my eyes.
Dinner in the Aquarius Dining Room was fantastic, not once we were disappointed by the quality of the food or the service we received there. We dined in the tank each night, breakfast each morning, but one, and lunch twice. Our waiter and assistant waiter very attentive, after the first night (Well, second night, Sandie was a bad influence for Karla, and she earned her baby ™ € couldn t find their way to dinner with me trying to guide her. She continued insisting that the door was off the stern of the ship, which led us to wake. Karla doesn € ™ t drink a lot and one night he drank more what he had done in months, Sandie still drinking her under the table, and I suspect Sandie could have drunk a platoon of Marines under the table.) Waiters called us by name as they arrived, had our favorite drinks waiting for us and made us feel at home (as opposed to our children make us feel as if Shouldn t ™ € at home.) When the recovered Aquarium Windjammer disappointed.
The shows in the main theater were welcome yet again we are disappointed by the shortsightedness of some of the staff. There was a large group on the cruise that was necessary to use the main theater and the staff changed the show time for the second nightâ € ™ s second show without notifying guests. From what I understand that the curtain was raised about 25 people in the audience because most of the audience appeared 15-30 minutes after the show started, as it is expected presentation began at 10:45 and at 10:15. This portion of the sample must have been incredible man-eating tigers (actually ate a man) and an act where the dancers are all mixed in a lot of twisting, which would have been a sight. * Wink *
On the last night of the cruise The main entertainment was a pair of jugglers, comedian, so the going was good comedian jugglers. But the highlight of the show was not the jugglers themselves but his "victim" of one of its acts. Jugglers wanted a child to join them on stage and seated him on stage, they were going to juggle bowling balls over it. As part of the comedy of the Law of the juggler dropped a bowling ball. The boy sat up, looked at the jugglers, arose and quickly walked off stage back to their parents. Apparently not expecting this response, as he proceeded to try to convince the child to meet with them on stage. This cruise did not have a lot of kids in it and this guy was the only kid in the audience, so he proceeded to stage a comeback bribe. Finally he bought with a bribe of $ 10. He rejoined them on stage and made him lay down again and the second tells juggler who slept with him. When you set that was on the other side of the boy from the other juggler. Resolved as soon as the child sat back, started to ask him not to go, but the boy apparently did not leave without his money, got up and put back on the other side of the juggler than anticipated, placing it alongside the juggler with balls bowling. This caught the jugglers off guard again, because they both laughed and the Law couldn € ™ t go on for a good 30 seconds while who gained control of themselves. Then perform the bit of juggling. When the child gave him the money that is cut a dollar, and the boy had told, aloud, then went for the jugglers and demanded the rest of his money. We know (or at least highly suspect) that this was not submitted because the boy in question ate dinner at the table next to us every night at dinner and so asked about it and everyone was excited about what had happened and brother was asked to go to the last show and recreate the performance.
I took advantage of snacks in the Solarium room a couple times and was very disappointed for food quality and staff attitude, I think my children were hiding in the back room and coaching staff here. When I asked something from the solarium staff made me feel as if my request was an imposition or annoyance, which preferred to chatting with his crew mates instead to serve to guests, like my children.
The waiters and barman at the Salon schooner was mindful of us as individuals and were impressed with how much who seemed to care about our trip. The best bartenders in the boat Rommel, Dordi, Diego, Orlando, Nestor, Tish, and Karl. They did a good job of helping Sandie corrupting to my girlfriend of 23 years. The bartenders, waiters and waitresses live on the tips and the group was gaining additional board with some of the other departments on the boat could take lessons from popular there.
Casino table game staff seem to know what they were doing, it seemed as if we had to remind you that did not pay a bet, not taking a lost wager, paid my winnings with another player, or just do not seem to understand their own games. My biggest disappointment at the Casino Wine of Texas Hold Em table, which was only opened once during the cruise, it was a distributor who does not seem to understand the game and had a rake outrageous 10% to U.S. $ 10 per side, most poker rooms, including the poker table in the Carnival Paradise, a rake of only $ 3 - $ 4 per hand and low that rake when donâ ™ € t have a complete game this casino seemed to understand that they could take the players for everything they could.
Access Internet, both on ships and terminals wireless was sporadic at best. Often I had 5 bars when I was wireless and could not even connect to server ships to sign in when using the terminal vessels are rarely able to pass the logon screen and signed on several occasions when I tried access Gmail or other forums. This might be seen as positive, since it limited my time online and didnâ ™ € t get to go anywhere girlies. * Wink *
Our stop in San Francisco, CA was great. We crossed under the Golden Gate Bridge around 6:15 in the morning and the lighting was great. We have been on that bridge before and seemed small, but step, as is magnificent and a view that many people donâ € ™ t get. We docked at Pier 35, which is one of the largest cruise ship terminals on the West Coast. Unfortunately, this terminal is more than a repository of a processing plant below, but provided a way sufficient as a gateway to the city for us. We do not take any excursions, but we did go ashore and walk along the jetty to Fishermanâ € ™ s Wharf and then € ™ s Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory (A must-do stop in San Francisco). Then pay for a Metro Day Pass and took the cable car through Chinatown, which proved to be an interesting ride. Then took the cable car to the Fishermanâ Back € ™ s Wharf and tram back to the ship.
Disembark the vessel in Victoria, BC was a chaos in previous trips, lifts to the footbridge were disabled by the covered walkway to guests could line the upper deck and not reduced in the elevator at the top of the crowd which allows latecomers to move ahead of other guests who had been waiting patiently for the gateway that is placed and opened to disembark. However customers who do not feel the need to wait in line were allowed to move in front other guests and were being directed instead to the activities director, this really hit a sore point for me.
When we reached our final port Vancouver, BC things were moving very well. Although he had to wait out the group called in one hope of the salons and enjoyed some Seattles Best Coffee served by a lovely lady who gave me the news that the Vision of the Seas will take over the routes that 3-Night/4-Night Baja Monarch of the Seas currently manages in the next year or so, this means you will receive many more visits to the Vision as the Los Angeles makes the best place for a weekend getaway now.
While I found a lot of negatives in this overview enjoyed it, but we can see several areas where the crew of the Vision of the seas could improve if this is a reflection of his normal attitude. Hopefully we can schedule a trip on vision when in a regular schedule and we can see what a trip then be.
Our adventure this holiday continues with a night cruise on the Star of Norway and a ride home on Amtrak Cascades € ™ s, so watch out for reviews of these trips.
